Day 1: Arrival in Luang Prabang - City Tour

Pick-up at the airport and transfer into town. After a soft rest, join the short city orientation tour to visit some main sites including Royal Palace and Mount Phousi. Dinner will be served at local restaurant with traditional dance & folk song. Ending the day with a strolling around the colorful night marketing

On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to check in the hotel.

After a soft rest, your “8-day Luang Prabang-Nong Khiaw Tour” will take a short walk around the small streets of city center, watching the life of local people.

After that, you will visit Royal Palace Museum, which was built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family.

Late afternoon, we climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic sunset view of the city and the Mekong River.

The welcome dinner will be served at the local restaurant with the traditional dance and folk song, the best chance to experience the local culture

The tour ends after a visit to the famous Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by local and hilltribe people surrounding Luang Prabang. Overnight in Luang Prabang

Day 2: Ban Long Lao - Kuang Si Waterfalls (Trekking)

Transfer to the village of Ban Xiengmouk where our trek will start. After that, the trek through the mountain, jungle, and paddy field leads us to the Kuang Si waterfalls. In the afternoon, refresh yourself at the waterfalls, take the dip at one of the natural pool or visit the nearby villages. Transfer back to your hotel late afternoon

We depart from your hotel and drive for around one hour west to Ban Xeng Mouk village where the trek starts.
We begin with a visit to the ethnic Khmu village of Ban Longlao Nung before heading to the nearby Hmong village of Ban Longlao Song. You will be able to observe the lifestyles of these two culturally very different minority groups and see how despite their differences they manage to work together on a day to day basis and even sharing the same school.
As we continue onwards the trail leads through rice paddys and vegetable fields before reaching the mountainous forest. Along the way we explore a cave which was used as a bomb shelter by the locals during the second indochina war.
After visiting the cave one more hour of trekking brings us to one of the many springs which feeds Kuang Xi waterfalls, here a beautiful pool full of sacred fish can be seen. After descending from the top of the waterfall we enjoy a Lao style lunch amongst some beautiful settings!
The afternoon is spent bathing and relaxing around the turquoise pools below the waterfall. You can also visit the bear conservation center which is located nearby and home to many bears which have been rescued from illegal farms.
Before returning to Luang Prabang we take a short walk to a nearby Khmu village of Ban Thapene which is home to some of the most beautiful pools of Kuang Xi Waterfalls.

Approximately: 2 hours driving, 4 hours trekking

Day 3: Cruise the Mekong to Pak Ou Caves - Drive to Nong Khiaw

We first visit the famous Wat Xiengthong before taking the boat upstream the Mekong River to visit the mysterious Pak Ou caves. From there, hop on the minivan and drive to Nong Khiaw. Free for the rest of the day with the option to ascend to Nong Khiaw view point to admire the sunset.

Breakfast at the hotel, take a short visit to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, a superb piece of Lao temple architecture, which presents a sweeping two-tiered roof and ornate mosaics including a beautiful ‘tree of life ‘glass montage on the rear temple wall.

We then begin our boat up the Mekong, enjoying the lush green forests and landscape. We will be able to stop off at a few villages and admire the breathtaking limestone karst scenery. Along the way we stop to visit the mysterious caves of Pak Ou, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by devoted pilgrims.
After visiting the caves, we will hop on the car and continue the transfer to Nong Khiaw, the small town along the lazy Nam Ou River.
Upon arrival in Nong Khiaw, transfer to your hotel in town.

Free for the rest of the day to relax or stroll around this charming town.

Overnight in Nong Khiaw


Recommended: Late afternoon, hike up to Nong Khiaw viewpoint to enjoy the panoramic view over the town, and the nearby area. The hike up will take more than 1.5 hours; hence, start no later than 4PM to make sure you can admire the sunset at the top

Day 4: Cruise the Nam Ou - Trek to Hidden Waterfalls and Local Villages

We first take the cruise upstream the Nam Ou river to Ban Sop Kong, and trek through the jungle to the hidden waterfalls of Tad Mork. In the afternoon, we continue further with 2.5-3 hour hike up to the small hill to the village of Ban Phayong, where we will have the dinner and spend the night with the host family

We begin at 8am and start off by boarding a local long boat and head off upstream through some fantastic landscape before making our first stop of the day at a small riverside village. Here we take some time to look around and if during a weekday pay the local school a visit to see the charming children as they take part in their classes.
After this we continue onwards to Tad Mork which is located close to the ethnic Khmu village of Ban Sop Kong, an hour trek from the river. At the waterfall, we shall have time to swim and enjoy a picnic lunch.
After that, we will start trekking through the jungle to Ban Phayong, the village of H’Mong ethnic. The trek will take about 2.5 – 3 hours up to a small hill.
Arriving in the village, you will take a stroll around the town to get familiar with the local villagers before having dinner with the host family.

Before going to bed, you may wish to admire the starry sky whilst listening to the sound the nature.

Day 5: Trekking back to the Nam Ou River - Cruise further to Muang Ngoi

After breakfast, we descend the hill down about 3 hours to the bank of Nam Ou River, then take the boat to Muang Ngoi. You have ample time to take some rest before have a soft walk to Ban Na and Tham Kaang. Walk through the paddy field back to Muang Ngoi during the sunset

Wake up early, you can help the host to prepare the breakfast, or watch the sun rising over the mountains.
In the morning, we will have 3 hours trekking downhill via the paddy, corn fields to the bank of Nam Ou river. From there, we board on the cruise upstream to Muang Ngoi, the fishing village in the middle of nowhere.
In the afternoon, we will trek to the local village of Ban Na, Khmu village; and the caves of Tham Kaang, which is said to have the supernatural powers.
Walk back to Muang Ngoi whilst the sun is setting.
If time permits, you can swim at the Nam Ou river, just like the locals.

Day 6: Cruise back to Nong Khiaw - Transfer to Muang Soune (homestay)

After breakfast, take the boat back to Muang Ngoi before taking the transfer directly to Ban Muang Soune. Upon arrival, say hello to the host and his village before joining plenty of activities at the village including farming or fishing. In the evening, join the Baci, share the dinner, and spend the night with the host family

After breakfast, take the boat back to Nong Khiaw, where the local guide is waiting for you.

We then visit the nearby market to buy the fresh foods before continuing further to Muang Soune, which locates 65Km from Nong Khiaw by the bank of Nam Ou river.

Arriving in the village, you will be welcomed by the host family, before strolling around the village to see the life of local people. We then visit the house of the chief of the village, and talk with him about the living condition, the history, or anything about the village.

The lunch will then be served at the house of the host family.

In the afternoon, you can choose to either relax or to enjoy agricultural activities such as rice planting and harvesting in surrounding rice fields (depending on the season); Traditional fishing techniques (you can sample your catch for dinner!); or walk around the farm and rice field.

If you wish, the dip in the Nam Ou river is very inviting and worth a try.

You may wish to join and help the host with preparing the dinner. This is the chance to learn about Lao cuisine.

Before the dinner, we will join the Baci Ceremony, held by the elders of the village. The Baci ceremony as a traditional ritual of the Lao people expresses the spirituality of the country and is a highly memorable experience and a deep insight into Lao culture for the participants.
During the dinner, the folk tales will be told by the host family and translated by our guide.

You may wish to stroll around the riverbank, and sense the nature, admiring the starry sky before going to bed.

Day 7: Acitivites with local People - Transfer to Nam Ou Riverside Resort

Continue the activities at the village before transferring directly to lovely Nam Ou Riverside Resort to spend the night. This is the perfect spot to end your Laos holiday.

Wake up early, you never want to miss the chance to admire the sunrise over the Nam Ou river, and the nearby mountains.

After breakfast, the morning will be dedicated to the fishing by the stunning Nam Ou river, experience traditional fishing techniques. You will also take the boat trip exploring the surrounding areas.

We come back to the village at 11:00AM to join the transfer back to Luang Prabang.

Today, we will make the stop at Ban Vanglae, home to the lovely Nam Ou Riverside Resort, where we spend the rest of the day to relax by the inviting pool or walk around the nearby village.
