Mekong River is one of the mightiest rivers in the world. Starting from China, then flowing through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, the river is very important to the lives of people in those countries. Running through Laos from the north to the south, Mekong is called “the Mother of all water”, and has the big affects to every matter of the daily life. In the past, since the land transportation was really the nightmare, Mekong river helped provide the fastest and most convenient way to connect the different areas in Laos. Nowadays, travelling in Laos on the Mekong is always one of the first choice of tourists. Laos cruise tour brings you the most unforgettable journey on the mighty Mekong river.

In general, the Mekong river in Laos can be divided into 02 main parts: the northern part (the upper Mekong), and the southern part (the lower Mekong). And all the cruise companies design the tour base on this geographical matter.

The northern part starts in Huayxay, at the border with Thailand flowing downstream to Pakeng, Luang Prabang, Xayabouly, and finishes in Vientiane. In this part of the Mekong, the most famous portion is from Huayxay to Pakeng, and Luang Prabang, which can be done within 02 or 03 days. With the 02 day cruise, we will dock for 01 night at Pakbeng; and another night at Kamu Lodge if we choose the 3 day package. Of course, it can be 04 or 05 days if we choose to extend our stay in Pakeng and/or in Kamu Lodge.

In some recent years, there are some cruises offering longer trip starting in China, or Golden Triangle, and finishing in Vientiane. The cruise extends up to 10 days or more, which enhances your Lao cruise tour experience.

Below are what Lao cruise tour has to offer in the northern part of the Mekong river in Laos.
