Southern Laos can be a rewarding part of the country to explore. It is well-known for some great obscure sites, underground rivers, towering waterfalls, ethnic diversity, ancient ruins and chilled-out backpacker havens.
The feature destination ranging from the unique architecture of Wat Phou, the pre-Angkorian temple ruin in Champasak, to the amazing 4000-island area, to the green nature of Bolaven Plateau, and Xe Pian NPA
Kayaking or bicycling around these bucolic islands is the signature southern Laos experience. You will have a great chance to explore Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Islands), also see rare Irrawaddy dolphins and hammock-strewn bungalows of Don Det and Don Khon.
Furthermore, this incredibly diverse region is home to Angkorian temples, highland cultures, huge waterfalls, and prime trekking. Exploring the area by rented motorbike makes for a very rewarding trip.
Southern Laos now has a scattering of upscale rural lodges and boutique hotels. New highways and dams are changing the landscape forever.
