KUANG SI WATERFALLS
Kuang Si waterfalls is one of the major attractions of the city of Luang Prabang, it’s a natural area filled with trees, vegetation, and water. Located about 29 kilometres southeast of the city of Luang Prabang, Kuang Si waterfalls is a small aquatic paradise with various levels of waterfalls surrounded by lush jungle and empties out into a series of three gently cascading pools.
This the the largest waterfall in Luang Prabang with three tiers. With the turquoise waters, clear and calm fury they become in the highest part of Kuang Si, where the water falls from a height of 60 meters. From the lowest one, each pool seems like a step on your way up to a holy temple.There are wide range of interesting activities for visitors such as going for a swim, jumping on liana from trees and for the more adventurous, climbing up to the rocks, a small natural park that includes, in addition to cataracts, a Center of recovery of bears and a picnic area.
Opening hours and entrance fee to the Kuang Si Falls
Open daily from 8:00 until 17:30
The price are 20,000 kip (approximate €2) purchased at the box office next to the entrance to the enclosure.
How to go to Kuang Si falls
There are two(mini) buses daily, running between Kuang Si Falls and Naluang Mini Bus station.
Departure time (from the Naluang station): 12:00 and 14:00
Cost: 40,000 for a ticket of return
You’ll go to the falls and come back to town by the same bus. The bus waits at the falls for around two hours. If you go in a group, hiring a mini bus is advised. By this way, you can stay at the falls without time limited. Price for bus is about 350,000kip (max 6 people), or 400,000kip (max 11 people).
Tuk tuk or songthaeaw:
To get there, it costs you from around $5- $10 per person. The price can be reduced to half if you travel in a group. The journey takes about 50 min–1 hour.
By this way, you can enlarge your knowledge about the lifestyle of the locals. It is the good chance to see the village and its handicrafts. If you are fancy taking photos of girls in Hmong costume, be careful that you might be asked to buy their stuff in return. Remember to bring more clothes because the weather cooler and fresher when you get closer to the falls.
Recommendations for the Kuang Si falls
– You should visit Kuang Si falls combined with other landmarks such as Pak Ou Caves and attractions in the city to save money and time.
– Wearing flat shoes and if you want to enjoy the water and take a swim.
– A picnic area and food stalls at the entrance at Kuang Si Falls are recommended.
– Avoiding going on Sunday if you don’t want to face with the tourist traps. The best time to visit the Kuang Si falls is in the morning, around 11:00.
